After an initial work beginning in April of 2016, planning with four Utah long range shooters Stuart Mackey, Francine Mackey, Jim Foster, Eric Halter, and Larry Scanlan hatched Utah’s first wind class. Utah’s first Wind Class was finally held at Wendover Utah on October 22 and 23, 2016 at Wendover, Utah.

The model for this event was the U-Tube Video by Eric Smith, an Association Life member and long range high master, who held a wind class for the Long Range Shooters of Utah on March 29 of 2014 (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spGqB5v1xlo). Since the 40 minute video was posted on U-Tube 42,690 hits, showing it is still popular with shooters today. If you want to get a look at our facilities at Wendover, Utah we recommend this video.

We were able to secure Scott to teach our class. We wanted to host a two day class with a high level shooter, Scott Harris from Phoenix Arizona who holds many NRA long range records and is a graduate of West Point. Scott’s lovely wife Christine is also a NRA national record holder in Long Range F-Class. Also teaching was Stuart Mackey, our High Power chair. We were lucky enough to attract 30 shooters who travelled from Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming as well as Utah for this event.

Thanks to Ryan McClain of McClain Photography of West Valley City for the excellent pictures taken during our event. We also wish to thank Jim Petersen of the Wendover Historic Airfield for the use of their facilities and Jasie Holm who catered our shooters dinner on Saturday night.
