Wendover Range

Covering competitive shooting sports within the state of Utah!

USR&PA logoThe Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

USR&PA is a club affilliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA, the foremost guardian of the traditional American right to "keep and bear arms" believes every law-abiding citizen is entitled to the ownership and legal use of firearms, and that every reputable gun owner should be an NRA Member. The Utah State Rifle & Pistol Association fully agrees with these principles.

President's Message 2021

2020 has been a challenging year. We held our first match of the year (a "practice" match) at Wendover on March 28, 2020 and all went well. Some shooters stayed away out of an abundance of caution as the first reports of Corona-19 virus were starting to appear. This was also our first use of newly purchased electronic targets (ShotMarker) for the Wendover range. We fired a Palma course of fire and were very pleased with the results. Our 2020 shooting season was underway.

In April, our first NRA Approved match was cancelled when we received an email from NRA saying they could not approve the match for that month (after all matches had been NRA approved in February). This was due to liability concerns NRA had over the Corona-19 virus .  This happened nationwide for all states. Sadly in May, the same thing happened to our surprise.

The final insult came when our NRA cancelled our previously approved two day regional on June 27-18, 2020.

July is our "Too hot to shoot" month for the Wendover range.  Matches  began again on August 22, 2020 and continued through October.

We care about the safety of our shooters. At Wendover, we are using electronic targets which minimizes human contact in the target pit area. Because we are shooting outside, we are avoiding confined spaces which are high risk and are able to maintain social distancing. It is our hope that vaccinations in 2021 will finally control the Corona virus threat sometime soon.

Wendover Range Information

The Wendover Range is open to events hosted by the Utah State Rifle and Pistol Association. It is not a public range. Calibers are limited to .35 caliber or less (NRA Rule 3.2 any rifle) when shooting matches or at steel owned by the Association. Exceptions can be made for qualified .50 caliber shooters shooting at paper targets only. Matches are normally held the fourth Saturday of each month from April through October (see our Events Schedule for details). Sometimes there are practice days held on Fridays before the monthly match if there is sufficient interest (Contact our webmaster). The range has 100, 200, 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yard firing points for shooting practice, NRA Mid Range matches, and Long Range matches.

The range is open all year long for practice sessions to USRPA members who have each been checked out and approved to use the range for practice. Approved members may invite non members as their guests.
